Luchanga ready to fight for U20 place
Striker Conlyde Luchanga says he is under no illusion that he will walk straight into Zambia’s starting XI at the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Israeli-based striker from Hapoel Ra’anana has joined the team's pre-tournament camp in Lusaka and will make his debut in Beston Chambeshi’s side during the championship Zambia will host from February 26 to March 12.
“Football is all about hard work; you work hard and prove yourself to the coach, that is how you fit in the team,” Luchanga, who already has over ten senior Zambia caps and one goal, said.
“I just have to work hard and prove myself to earn my place.”
Luchanga said he has been closely following the team’s progress, including their 2016 Cosafa Under-20 Cup final victory over hosts South Africa last December.
“I was watching the Cosafa and Zambia have a very good team,” Luchanga said.
“ I will have to work very hard to earn my place in the first XI.”
Zambia will kick off their 2017 Under-20 Afcon campaign on February 26, with a Group A opening game against Guinea at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Egypt and Mali are the other teams in Group A.
