Weah calls for Ghana help

Former World Player of the Year George Oppong Weah has urged Ghana to assist his home nation as they prepare for general elections.

He has also asked Ghana's new President and the larger sub-regional body ECOWAS, to help ensure that the Liberian elections are credible. Acknowledging his country's brutal civil war, he noted that the results should be acceptance by all the stakeholders involved in the process.

Weah was speaking at Ghana's seat of government, the Flagstaff House, on a visit to Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana's president. The former European best footballer noted that the President's success at his third attempt at the presidency is “a lesson for all of us. If you don’t succeed at your first attempt, try again.”

According to Weah, the conduct of Ghana’s 2016 elections, which resulted in a peaceful change of government, has cemented Ghana’s position as the true beacon of democracy on the African continent. He said this is an enviable feat that should be emulated by all countries on the continent.

.

Didier Drogba, former captain of Ivory Coast, has also visited the Flagstaff House in the last few days.
