KG signs for Delhi, Tahir misses out

Kagiso Rabada has been one of the South African beneficiaries of the IPL auction, bought by the Delhi Daredevils for approximately $746 000, while Imran Tahir, David Wiese, Wayne Parnell and Dwaine Pretorius were not snatched up by any of the Indian franchises.

Farhaan Behardien also did not make the cut as was the case with Kyle Abbott.

England allrounder Ben Stokes became the most expensive overseas player ever bought at an IPL auction, going for approximately $2.16 million to Rising Pune Supergiants. (Source: www.cricinfo.com).

England fast bowler Tymal Mills also set a new record price for a specialist bowler: he was the second most expensive sale at the tenth player auction, in Bangalore on Monday, and bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for approximately $1.8 million.

KG captured 6-16, including a hat-trick, in his first one-day International for South Africa in 2015 and secured a match-haul of 13-144 for South Africa against England in January 2016 in a test at SuperSport Park.

The South African players who were retained by their franchises were David Miller for $1 865 million, AB de Villiers, who remained at the Royal Challengers Bangalore for $1 417 million and Chris Morris, whose services was secured for $1.044 million by the Delhi Daredevils.

Quinton de Kock will play for Delhi (his selling price was $522 000), while Faf du Plessis will represent the Superstars for $597 000.

JP Duminy’s selling price for the Delhi Daredevils was $328 000.

Hashim Amla fetched $149 000 for representing the same team as Miller, the Kings XI Punjab, while the left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi will play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore for $14 000.

De Villiers has been one of the most acclaimed players in the world, scoring the quickest 50, 100 and 150 in terms of balls in one-day internationals.

Miller once blasted 101 off 38 balls for the Kings XI Punjab against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and remains one of Punjab’s greatest stars.
